What can I use for free?
One car, searches, stay checks, holidays, plate text, and six plate styles are free. The free reminder uses a 45-minute setting. If less time remains, it is set soon after parking. Allow notifications for reminders. Delivery can be delayed. Alternate+ adds more cars, custom reminder timing, and widgets.
Can I change my plate style?
Choose your plate text and one of 12 glass styles. Classic, Cream, Pink, Blue, Mint, and Stripes are free. Night, Rally, Sunset, Violet, Grid, and Dots need Alternate+. Use your plate number or any text. You can keep a saved paid style after Alternate+ ends.
Does Alternate find empty parking spaces?
Alternate shows parking rules. It does not show open spaces. Search an address. Choose the street side beside your car. Review the rules before you save parking.
When does Alternate show a move time?
Alternate shows known restrictions and supported move times. It identifies missing, old, or unclear rules. Read every posted sign and temporary notice before you leave.
Does Alternate save parking automatically?
No. Choose an address and street side. Review your choice. Tap Save parking. Search and maps never save parking automatically. Directions opens Apple Maps at an approximate point on your chosen block.
Do I need an account?
No account is required. Car details and parking locations stay in on-device and Apple-managed storage. Share analytics is on for new installations. Saved off choices stay off. You can turn it off in Settings. Analytics excludes location, car details, and search text.
Can I use it without a connection?
Read saved signs and the 2026 holiday calendar offline. New searches, rule updates, and official NYC notices need a connection. Old rules cannot support a current move time. Reminders run on your device, but delivery can be delayed.
What if some rules are missing?
Save the address and street side without a rule deadline. The guidance says Check the posted sign. Check every posted sign. You can set your own move time after you save. Your chosen time does not confirm that parking is allowed. An earlier known restriction takes priority.
