How to save parking in Alternate

Find your address, choose your street side, and save the place you’ll return to.

Review the street side, then tap Save parking. Example parking data. Open the screen to view it larger.

To save parking in Alternate, choose your car, find the address, select the street side, and tap Save parking. Home then keeps the saved place, any supported move deadline, and your reminder together.

You don’t need an account. Your first car and its standard reminder are free. The places, dates, and times in these screenshots are examples; check the posted signs beside your own car.

Add your car and open parking

  1. Open Home. If you haven’t added a car, tap the blank plate, enter any plate text you want, and tap Add car. Your actual license plate number is optional.
  2. For a car that isn’t parked yet, tap Park this car. If you’re updating an existing parking location, tap Move car.
  3. Follow the Where did you park? sheet. Adding your first car can open this sheet for you.

If you have several cars with Alternate+, select the right car before continuing. Browsing the plate carousel does not move an existing car or its reminder.

Find the address and street side

Search an NYC address or intersection, then choose a matching place. You can also use Use current location when available. Location helps you find the area; it does not save parking automatically.

Under Which street side?, choose the side where your car actually sits. Compare the street name, compass side, and cross streets with your surroundings. A small map helps you orient yourself; choose the named street-side row to continue.

If the correct side is missing, choose My street side is not listed. Save the address with the side you know, or Not sure. This fallback has no verified parking-rule deadline. After saving, you can set your own move time once you have checked the signs.

Review, then save

On Confirm parking, check the selected car, address, street side, and cross streets. Open Posted rules to inspect the available schedules. Read every posted sign and temporary notice at the curb, including restrictions that might be missing from the app.

Tap Save parking to finish. Home should show the saved street side. Until that explicit save, searching and reviewing do not replace your previous parking location. If saving fails, try again and confirm the result on Home.

A supported move time is guidance from known rules. Check the posted sign means you still need to establish the applicable restriction yourself.

Start from Search instead

You can browse a place before opening the parking flow:

  1. Open Search and enter an address, intersection, or place.
  2. Choose a result, then the correct row under Nearby street sides.
  3. In Parking rules, tap Park on this side. Review Confirm parking and tap Save parking.
Alternate Search showing NYC address results, Use current location, and the posted-sign caution in a complete iPhone frame.
Search is another way to begin. It shows places and known rules, not available parking spaces. Example search results. Open the screen to view it larger.

Check Home before you leave

Confirm that Home shows the street side you chose. Check the move deadline and the actual day and time beside Reminder. Notification permission and reminder settings affect whether an alert can be scheduled; the move reminder guide explains those checks.

Use Can I stay until…? when you want to compare a departure time with known rules. Directions opens Apple Maps near your saved street side; its destination is approximate.

Next time you park, use Move car and save the new street side. When you’re leaving without saving another place, Leave parking spot removes that parking session and its reminder while keeping your car.

Keep your parking place close.

Save your NYC parking address and street side, then check known rules and your actual reminder. One car and the standard reminder are free. Available on iPhone.
